Below you can explore the map. You can turn different layers on and off. These can be found at the top right corner of the map. You can zoom in and out and move around on the map. You can also draw and make measurements on the map, as well as share and export maps.

The different map layers consist partly of Forest Monitor's 1.0 layer with potential older forest and continuity forest in southern Sweden, which is classified into three classes based on known and open data on whether the forests contain high conservation values or probable conservation values. Note! This first version contains an overestimation of the area of older forest, but at the same time also an underestimation of forests with high conservation values. The maping of Kalmar County and Örebro County has been refined and has a lower degree of error. In addition to our own data, there are modified versions of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) layers with corresponding data for the northern part of the country, which are then classified by Skogsmonitor into the same three conservation value classes. For the counties of Norrbotten, Dalarna, Jämtland, Västernorrland and Västerbotten, the mapping has been made more precise by the EPA/Metria and contains fewer errors, this also applies to the sub-alpine forests. The map layers also include data from the Swedish Forest Agency and the EPA which show, for example, formally protected forests and logging notifications (forests planned to be clear-cut/logged). Please note that there is a time lag and a margin of error which means that newer clear-cuts and loggings that have not been detected by the Swedish Forest Agency for some time may appear as older forest in our and the EPA's data.

Logging notification statistics

Monitor - Alarm

Right now, tens of thousands of hectares of forest are notified for final felling (planned to be clear-cut), within the mapped area of forest with high conservation values or probable conservation values!

ATTENTION! This is an underestimation, as the 1.0 version of the mapping does not contain all known natural and conservation values.
